Saginaw River Rear Range Lighthouse opens to the public after 30 years

BANGOR TOWNSHIP The Saginaw River Rear Range Lighthouse, which was built in 1876, hasn't been open to the public for 30 years.

The lighthouse is owned by Dow Chemical and sits along the west side of the Saginaw River. It is now open in connection to the Tall Ships Celebration in Bay City.

Carl John, of the Great Lakes Lighthouse Festival, realizes the importance this lighthouse is to spectators. "We had somebody come all the way from Florida up here, just to see this this weekend. He flew up and flew back just to see this, so that's how important it is to lighthouse people."

Fans are trying to restore the lighthouse, but they say it's a slow process.
