Summer arrives in Paris with man-made beach

PARIS For the ninth straight year, nearly 1.5 tons of recycled sand were poured on the quays of the Seine River, which crosses the French capital.

A 2.5 mile stretch is covered with sand.

The artificial beach is meant to give those who can't leave town a touch of summer fun. For a city built on history and tradition, the change is a welcome sight.

The beach will be in place until Aug. 20.
