Study: Ecstasy may treat patients with PTSD

LOS ANGELES In a small study, researchers tracked 20 patients who had PTSD for an average of 19 years.

Twelve patients took ecstasy, and eight patients took a placebo.

Researchers found that more than 80 percent of patients who received the drug, along with psychotherapy, no longer fit the criteria for PTSD.

Experts stress the study is in its early stages, and safety issues must be resolved before any recommendations can be made.
