New $35M vet housing project breaks ground

A groundbreaking ceremony took place Saturday in Inglewood for a new development that will provide affordable, permanent housing for homeless veterans.The new addition to the Westside Residence Hall is a $35-million project that will include nearly 200 apartments and homes for veterans.

Senator Barbara Boxer, who attended the ceremony, said nearly 30,000 California vets are homeless.

The widow of the late Senator Ted Kennedy spoke out about the need for veteran housing.

When the housing project is completed in about 18 months, it will also provide rehabilitation, job training, counseling and educational services for veterans.
