SB pursuit ends after police shoot suspect

APPLE VALLEY, Calif. The incident began on Monday when a deputy on patrol near Kiowa and Rock Springs roads in /*Apple Valley*/ spotted a green Honda Accord that had been reported stolen out of /*Hesperia*/ on July 22.

The deputy said that when he attempted to pull over the vehicle, the driver refused to stop and took off. When the pursuit ended near Manzanita Street and Ocotillo Way, three male suspects got out of the Honda and fled.

During a foot chase, a suspect identified as 35-year-old Robert Burch of Hesperia allegedly stopped and turned toward the deputy, apparently holding something in his hands.

The deputy said he gave several commands for the suspect to drop the object. When the man refused, the deputy fired his weapon. Burch was transported to the hospital where he was listed in critical condition.
