CSU admissions depend on state budget

SACRAMENTO, Calif. CSU campuses will begin accepting applications for next spring this Sunday, but will enroll students depending on the final state budget approved by lawmakers.

"Despite the uncertainty regarding state support for the 2010-2011 academic year, we will move forward with the application process for spring 2011," CSU Chancellor Charles B. Reed said in a statement released Thursday.

CSU usually enrolls 35,000 new students each spring across the state. Last spring campuses cut back enrollment by not accepting new students after the state slashed $625 million from their budget.

This budget cycle Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has proposed increasing funding for CSU by more than $365 million.

CSU officials say if the legislature approves his proposal, campuses will open spring admission and welcome 29,000 new students.
