Family mourns death of murdered pregnant woman

LEIMERT PARK, LOS ANGELES Dozens of candles illuminated the memorial for Christina Williams. Friends and family arrived Saturday night to hug, cry and remember.

"She was a beautiful person, inside and out," said Williams' sister, Brittany.

Williams was shot to death as she sat in her car near the corner of 42nd Street and 4th Avenue. Family members say she had received a phone call late Thursday night from someone who apparently needed to see her and told her to meet up.

"What is there to think?" said Williams' other sister, Rikki. "We just know that she's not here with us."

Detectives say they received an anonymous tip from a witness who saw a man running from the scene but the description is only that it was a tall, thin black male.

"This woman was seven months pregnant, she was only 27 years old," said community activist Eddie Jones. "She had every right in the world to live."

Some residents say they heard gunshots, but by the time they came out there was no one there. Community activists say police need help to solve this.

"It's not just a police problem, it's a community problem," said Earl Ofari Hutchinson of the Los Angeles Urban Policy Round Table. "This is murder."

Anyone with information is asked urged to call the /*Los Angeles Police Department*/ at (877) 527-3247.
