Person of interest sought in Mid-City murder

LOS ANGELES Authorities responded to the 4800 block of /*St. Charles Place*/ after residents in the area heard gunshots at about 11:15 p.m. Thursday. Officers found the woman dead at the scene.

The victim was identified only as a Hispanic woman in her 30s.

"A bunch of people were interviewed. The residents were interviewed, except for one," said LAPD Homicide Detective Frank Carillo. "The one resident that we need to talk to, his name is Ignacio Perez. Ignacio is a 34-year-old male Latino. And at this point he has not made himself available. We call him a person of interest simply because he's not making himself available, and other factors that we've developed within the investigation."

Authorities are worried that Perez is on the run toward the Mexican border. Perez, a Mexican national, lives at the home where the victim was found. Police believe Perez was the last person to see the victim alive.

"It is clear that he is running from police," said Carrillo.

A motive for the murder was not determined.

The murder scene is across the street from the /*LAPD Wilshire Station*/. Nearby residents said having a police station nearby used to make them feel safe.

"It's unbelievable because they never had no problems," said neighbor Ana Puente. "Police, they should be here in a minute, but they're not."

Anyone with information related to this case was urged to call the LAPD tip line at (877) LAPD-24-7.
