LAUSD high schools end summer break early

LOS ANGELES Under a new calendar, three schools will start classes on Monday.

Each school will now have 90-day sessions, with six-week breaks in between.

The idea is to keep kids from forgetting information when they're not in class and to help prepare them for state tests.

The schools with the new schedule are Arleta, Sun Valley and Francis Polytechnic high schools.

Eighteen other district schools will start classes next Monday, Aug.16.
