'Grim Sleeper' suspect gets new attorney

LOS ANGELES

At an advancement hearing in downtown Los Angeles on Monday, /*Louisa Pensanti*/ told the judge she is now the defense attorney for /*Lonnie Franklin Jr.*/ She said she has taken on Franklin as a client, pro bono.

Franklin is charged with 10 counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. He was arrested in July after authorities said DNA evidence linked the series of killings, which took place over a span of more than two decades.

The first happened in 1985 and the last killing took place in 2007.

Franklin is scheduled to be arraigned Aug. 23.
