'Grim Sleeper' suspect gets disability pymts

LOS ANGELES

Lonnie Franklin Junior is accused of murdering 10 women over a span of 20 years. City officials confirm that during much of that time, he was receiving disability payments.

He worked for the Los Angeles Sanitation Department for nine years and claimed an on-the-job shoulder injury, which forced him to retire.

Franklin appeared before a panel of doctors who concluded he should be considered disabled from his job.

Since that time he has received more than $230,000 in disability retirement benefits from the /*Los Angeles City Employees Retirement System*/ (LACERS).
