Man found dead in Long Beach Jail cell

LONG BEACH, Calif. The man was found in his bed early Monday morning and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say there were no signs of any trauma. The man, a 58-year-old transient, was arrested Saturday evening for public intoxication and an outstanding warrant. Long Beach Transit had apparently called police to report an intoxicated passenger.

Police believe the man died in his sleep, but the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office is investigating the cause of death. Homicide detectives are also conducting a separate investigation.
