Woman stabs ex outside Yorba Linda church

YORBA LINDA, Calif. Elizabeth Cuevas Villanueva, 47, of Yorba Linda, is facing several felony charges including attempted homicide and domestic violence.

Brea Police say Villanueva was hiding in the back seat of a convertible Mercedes that was parked outside Messiah Lutheran Church at 4861 Liverpool Street Monday night.

Police say just before 10 p.m. a 48-year-old man left a church meeting and climbed into the car when Villanueva began stabbing him in the head and shoulders with an ice pick.

Police say the victim hit the gas pedal, striking a tree in the parking lot. He was able to escape the vehicle.

The suspect fled the area on foot and was captured by officers near the intersection of Abbey and Liverpool.

The weapon was located near the crime scene.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries. He was treated and released.

Investigators say the victim and suspect had a dating relationship that ended about four months ago, but they were still living together.

Villanueva was booked at Brea Police Department and later taken to Orange County Jail on $500,000 bail.

Detectives are still trying to determine a motive for the attack. They are also seeking any witnesses or anyone who may have additional details about the case. Anyone with information is asked to call Brea Police at (714) 990-7637.
