T.I. comeback could be derailed with arrest

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. /*T.I.*/, whose real name is Clifford Harris Jr., just got married and is in the new box office hit "/*Takers*/," but less than a year after he was released from prison, the Grammy-winning artist is in trouble with the law again.

According to reports, deputies pulled over the 29-year-old rapper and his wife Tameka Cottle during a routine traffic stop on Sunset Boulevard at about 10:30 p.m.

"He had done an illegal U-turn and the deputies stopped him for that," said L.A. County sheriff's spokesperson Nicole Nishida. "When they stopped him and conducted their investigation they smelled marijuana substance coming from the car. At that point they conducted a narcotics investigation and found pills that resemble Ecstasy."

T.I. and his wife were both arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

This isn't the first time T.I. has been in trouble with the law. The rapper was released from an Arkansas prison in December after serving seven months behind bars for illegal firearms possession.

T.I. recently spoke to ABC7 entertainment reporter George Pennacchio at the premiere of his movie "Takers." He said he is trying to turn his life around.

"If Hollywood would have me I definitely plan on spending as much time here as possible," said T.I. said at the Hollywood movie premiere on Aug. 4. "I believe this entire year represents a new beginning for me. I'm very proud to embark on a new journey."

T.I. and his wife were booked at the West Hollywood sheriff's station. Both were released from jail at about 4 a.m. Thursday after posting $10,000 bail each.

The couple is scheduled to appear at a Beverly Hills courtroom on Nov. 1.
