Moscow gets literal zebra crossings

September 3, 2010 12:00:00 AM PDT
In Moscow, police are using horses painted as zebras to encourage safe street crossings.Crosswalks are frequently called zebra crossings in other parts of the world because of their black and white stripes.

Police hope these horses of a different color will help children to stay safe while crossing the street. The animals were led across the street as children crossed to help stop traffic and teach children to stay in the crosswalk.

Police hope the striped horses will also alert drivers to pedestrians crossing.
