Singer Lorna Luft set to debut new show

LOS ANGELES Luft is headlining two upcoming concerts backed by the Glendale Renaissance Orchestra in Glendale and the New West Pops in Thousand Oaks.

"When you have the opportunity to have a Pops Orchestra in your town, support it," said Luft. "Go and see it. Go see whatever program they are doing."

Luft is the daughter of the late and legendary singer-actress Judy Garland. Garland made a mark in the business and she taught her daughter to create her own persona on stage.

"It's a lesson that I'm fortunate enough to have been taught by one of the greatest entertainers of the world," said Luft. "I constantly say to young performers not to copy because it's sort of, like, I want to see the original. I don't want to see the Xerox.

"From Broadway to Hollywood - In Concert" will feature songs from Garland, Sammy Davis, Jerry Herman and other well-known music makers.

"I got my first job in a show called "Promises, Promises." And I was able to sing the music of Burt Bacharach and Hal David.

Before Luft performs at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza September 19 she'll be at the Alex Theatre in Glendale on September 16.

"So now I'm able to take the Broadway shows that I've done and bring them to the Alex and bring my heritage of what my mother left for all of us," said Luft.
