Riverside man caught for kidnap, sex assault

RIVERSIDE, Calif. Matthew David Sutton, 24, allegedly tried to lure two children into his older blue van in the area of Ivanhoe and Campbell in the Arlanza neighborhood of /*Riverside*/ at around 10:20 a.m. After police received calls of this incident, they located Sutton's vehicle and arrested him.

During the investigation, officers discovered that the Sutton had tried to lure another victim, an 11-year-old female, into his van earlier that morning.

In addition, investigators found similarities to an incident in January 2010 that involved a 12-year-old victim that was abducted and sexually assaulted on her way home from school.

After further investigation, police found forensic evidence that positively linked Sutton to the January incident.

Sutton was booked into a detention center for kidnapping for the purpose of a lewd act with a child, aggravated sexual assault, lewd act with a child under 14 and three counts of attempted kidnapping for the purpose of a lewd act with a child.

According to authorities, Sutton was known to drive a blue van as well as a red burgundy four-door vehicle. He was also known to frequent schools and city parks.
