Lane, Cross join 'Stand Up To Cancer' benefit

LOS ANGELES

The "Stand Up To Cancer" telethon aired on all the major networks and several cable and satellite channels Friday night. It also was shown on the Armed Forces Network.

/*Michael Douglas*/, who was recently diagnosed with throat cancer, lent his star power, as did George Clooney, Will Smith and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Cancer survivors /*Christina Applegate*/, Lance Armstrong and Elizabeth Edwards also made appearances.

The event raises money for innovative research. Scientists say they're coming closer and closer to cracking the cancer code.

"Stand Up to Cancer" was hosted by news anchors Diane Sawyer, Katie Couric and Brian Williams.
