Redlands police, firefighters to honor soldier

REDLANDS, Calif. The body of U.S. Army Sgt. Raymond Alcaraz is scheduled to arrive at Ontario Airport Saturday. Alcaraz was killed in action in Afghanistan on Aug. 31.

Alcaraz's body will be transported to Emmerson-Bartlett Memorial Chapel. Police and firefighters with agency vehicles will stand and line freeway overpasses along the route of transport to honor Alcaraz. Officers and firefighters will also line a route following University St. to Citrus Ave. to Brookside Ave. at Center St.

The Redlands Fire Dept. requested the local community to also line the surface street route Saturday to honor Alcaraz.

Alcaraz had intended to become a firefighter and spent time at the department station observing. The department was invited by Alcaraz's family to participate in the memorial service.

Alcaraz is scheduled to be memorialized and laid to rest Wednesday.
