Oil well blowout preventer arrives at NASA

NEW ORLEANS

An official with the Coast Guard said the 300-ton device arrived in New Orleans on Saturday afternoon.

The device had been lifted from a mile beneath the sea a week ago.

Federal investigators consider the device a key piece of evidence and will analyze it to determine why it failed.

The April 20 explosion killed 11 workers and led to the spewing of an estimated 206 million gallons of oil.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
