Fatal Fullerton DUI crash case trial begins

FULLERTON, Calif. Angel Herrera, 30, Leal is facing a maximum sentence of 15 years to life in prison if convicted.

Prosecutors say early in the morning of December 28th 2008, Leal drove several miles on the wrong side of the 5 Freeway in Anaheim.

Several drivers called 911 saying they had to swerve to avoid Leal. Leal eventually crashed his pick-up truck head-on into an oncoming Toyota Corolla.

Jisum Park was behind the wheel of the Corolla. She suffered injuries to her abdomen. Park's passenger, 29-year old Rebecca Moon, suffered blunt force trauma to her head and was killed.

Prosecutors say Leal has two prior convictions for driving under the influence in 2005 and 2007.

He was driving on a suspended license at the time of the crash. Prosecutors say Leal had completed alcohol education classes in Los Angeles County and was aware of the danger of driving under the influence of alcohol.

They say Leal was advised that he could be charged with murder if he killed someone while driving under the influence.
