Northridge man sentenced in credit card scam

LOS ANGELES Thomas Michio Taniguchi, 45, pleaded guilty to 50 counts of fraudulent possession of access to card account information.

He was sentenced to more than seven years in state prison and ordered to pay nearly $33,500 in restitution to Discover Card Financial Services.

Prosecutors say Taniguchi fraudulently used the cards encoded with stolen account information to make purchases and get cash and gift cards at 33 locations throughout Orange County. The stores included Ralphs, Albertsons, Stater Bros., CVS, Target, Vons, Walgreens, and Wal-Mart.

On April 15, he was sentenced in Los Angeles County to four years in state prison for similar crimes.

A co-defendant in the case, Jerome Abaquin Gonzales, 33, pleaded guilty last week to one felony count of conspiracy to commit access card fraud and one felony count of trafficking and possessing access card materials. He was sentenced to three years probation and a year in jail.
