OC firefighter dies during training exercise

IRVINE, Calif. James M. Owen, 56, collapsed in full cardiac arrest Thursday morning during a routine training exercise on the /*Orange County Fire Authority*/ drill grounds in Irvine.

He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Owen began his career with the Orange County Fire Authority in 1980. He spent most of his time at Fire Station 4 in Irvine where he worked as a Haz-Mat firefighter and paramedic.

He was affectionately called "Jimmy" by colleagues and friends who say he had a tireless work ethic and boundless generosity.

Owen is survived by his wife and three sons. Funeral services have not yet been announced.
