Man sues landlord over stolen marijuana

MURRIETA, Calif. Gary Hite filed the lawsuit in /*Riverside County*/ court, claiming negligence and breach of contract.

The suit alleged that the landlord failed to fix a broken door and lock after a break-in at a neighboring unit earlier in May.

Burglars broke into Hite's unit a few weeks after that incident, according to The Press Enterprise.

The suit said 35 plants, worth $1,000 a piece, were stolen. Hite claims that he grew the marijuana for medical purposes, but police said the operation was illegal and that Hite was also cited for various code violations.
