Judge to decide on hold of L.A. zoo elephants

September 29, 2010 12:00:00 AM PDT
A judge scheduled a court date to decide whether a temporary restraining order should be issued to prevent the Los Angeles Zoo from bringing in new elephants. The judge said on Wednesday that the hearing will be on Oct. 25.

A 2007 lawsuit alleged that the zoo inadequately cared for elephants and that their enclosure was too small. It also claimed a new exhibit would be a waste of taxpayer money.

Currently there is only one elephant at the L.A. Zoo.
