Mayor champions L.A. transit projects in D.C.

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa met with President Barack Obama at the White House and made a pitch for more federal funding of local transportation projects.Villaraigosa was one of several mayors and governors who traveled to Washington to meet with the president and members of his Cabinet.

The mayor has been seeking congressional support to accelerate the construction of 12 major transit projects in Los Angeles County.

"We've got to be competitive. We've got to get people back to work but also create the infrastructure that will build a strong economy," Villaraigosa said.

This is the mayor's third trip to Washington in less than a month.
