NY father, son send capsule 19 mi. into space

NEWBURGH, N.Y. Using a weather balloon and plenty of ingenuity, they managed to launch a capsule, loaded with a video camera and an iPhone, some 19 miles into the sky.

The remarkable effort was captured on film and posted on YouTube.

Luke Geissbuhler and his 7-year-old son Max launched the balloon from Newburgh, N.Y. early 2010.

The pair worked for months on the project, making sure their capsule could withstand harsh 100-mph winds and temperatures as low as minus 60 degrees.

Their capsule took off without problems and after reaching the upper atmosphere, the balloon burst and the capsule parachuted back to earth.

The pair managed to recover the video recorded during the flight and said the entire experiment was even more than they could have hoped for.
