Man arrested for sex with Palos Verdes teen

PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. Authorities say that Hugo Galindo Gonzalez, 24, used multiple false identities on MySpace to prey on young girls in the South Bay.

"Surfs Up!, Rodrigo Wright and Chad are the three names we know of at this time," said Sgt. Aksel Pedersen, Palos Verdes Estates Police Department.

Gonzalez was arrested Monday when Palos Verdes Estates police and FBI agents raided his home on the 23000 block of Maltby Place. During the investigation, police determined that Gonzalez "had used the Internet to contact and arrange a meeting with the minor victim."

Palos Verdes Estates detectives began investigating the case in August, when they learned through a relative who tipped them off that the 14-year-old teen had met with Gonzalez and engaged in sex in her home, according to a complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles.

"We received a tip that there was a possible sexual assault of a minor that occurred in our city," said Sgt. Pedersen. "We took a report on it. Our detective bureau did an extensive investigation and learned that a male adult had contacted a minor using the Internet."

Detectives fear there may be other victims.

"With minor children sometimes they are afraid to report these crimes," said Sgt. Pedersen. "This is why we want to get this information out to parents and other people who might be affected by this."

Residents in the suspect's Harbor City neighborhood are concerned.

"I think everybody is always on the lookout for this kind of problem, but they never think it is going to happen here," said Cathy Houston of Harbor City. "Knowing that this kind of person lived here, I think people need to take a second look and really watch their children."

Anyone with any additional information about this case is urged to call the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department at (310) 378-4211.
