Vigil, march held for domestic abuse victims

LONG BEACH, Calif. About 250 people turned out for the event, which was part of national Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Raising their voices and raising awareness, participants marched down the streets of downtown Long Beach chanting, "No excuse for domestic abuse."

They carried signs and candles to remember those who have died at the hands of an abuser.

The /*Women Shelter of Long Beach*/ says domestic violence in the U.S. accounts for three times the emergency room visits than accidents and muggings combined.

"It feels good to know that there are this many people who are actually standing up and helping," said Gina Wilson, a survivor of an abusive relationship.

Anyone who needs help can call the Women Shelter of Long Beach at (562) 437-4663.
