O.C. man kills neighbor for sleeping with son

FULLERTON, Calif. Guillermo Rodriguez, 43, was found guilty of murder, criminal threats and dissuading a witness from testifying.

Rodriguez's previous criminal record included convictions for two robberies and two assaults.

Rodriguez faces a maximum sentence of 80 years for the murder. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 10.

According to the Orange County District Attorney's office, on Oct. 16, 2006, Guillermo Rodriguez held a dinner party at his Fullerton apartment with his girlfriend, his four sons, his neighbor, Donna Dutton, and her daughter.

Rodriguez had been heavily consuming alcohol throughout the night. Late in the evening, at approximately 1 a.m. Oct. 17, Rodriguez and his girlfriend went out to buy more alcohol.

Upon returning, Rodriguez found his neighbor, Donna Dutton, in bed with his 18-year-old son, Junior. Rodriguez then argued with Dutton, and told his son and his girlfriend to leave the bedroom and close the door. Rodriguez then strangled Dutton. He wrapped her in a blanket and placed her body in a bathroom.

The next night, Rodriguez, with the help of his son Junior, carried Dutton's body into his girlfriend's car. They drove to Victorville and dumped the body in a remote area. Hunters found the body 10 days later.

In Dec. 2006, Rodriguez, now married, told his wife about the murder. She went to police in March 2007. Guillermo and Junior Rodriguez were arrested on May 29, 2007.

Junior Rodriguez pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact. He was sentenced to a year in prison and three years' probation.
