Bright future ahead for Chinese giant pandas

CHINA Scientists said they believe the species can be saved from extinction.

The Chengdu Breeding Research base in Sichuan Province said there were more than 300 pandas in captivity.

The two main research centers set a new record of 19 cubs born this year with the help of artificial insemination.

There are only 16,000 giant pandas left in the wild.

The next challenge will be introducing captive pandas to their natural habitat. The only attempt so far ended with the death of the released panda.
