2 hikers rescued from Ventura County woods

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. Friends Stephen Kurcinak and Wajim Noor went hiking on Sunday in an area known as Circle X Ranch. During the hike, they decided to venture off into an unimproved trail. The trail gradually became more and more overgrown, and the two soon found themselves crawling in brush that was 10 to 12 feet tall.

As they were struggling to find their way out of the mountains, they fortunately stumbled into an area with cellular phone reception and called 911 around 4 a.m. Monday.

The /*Ventura County Sheriff's Department*/ sent search teams to the area. After searching for hours, rescuers located the hikers but could not reach them because the surrounding brush was so overgrown.

A helicopter was able to hoist the hikers up to safety. They were wet and cold but suffered no serious injuries.
