Riverside recognized as top tech-savvy city

The city of Riverside was one of 21 cities chosen as the top tech-savvy towns worldwide.This is the third year in a row the Inland Empire city has received the honor of the Smart21 Communities Award.

Riverside was one of six U.S. cities to receive the recognition. Other cities to receive the award include Chongqing, China; Eindhoven, Netherlands; Ipswich, Australia; Issy-les-Moulineaux, France; Quebec City, Canada; and Chattanooga, Tenn.

The award, which is distributed by the Intelligent Community Forum, specifically recognized Riverside for its municipal Wi-Fi, the city's Digital Inclusion Program as well as its SmartRiverside programs. The award also recognized the city for its e-waste processing and its collaboration with schools and private technology companies.

Intelligent Community Forum officials said it will announced the Top Seven Intelligent Communities of the Year Jan. 19, 2010.
