Long Beach cops caught in weapons theft case

LONG BEACH, Calif. Former officer Damian Ramos was arrested on Aug. 5, accused of stealing weapons turned in from a case he was working on. A /*Long Beach*/ business had turned over numerous weapons to Ramos in a found property call, but the department found that not all of the weapons were placed into evidence.

After learning of this inconsistency, the department launched an investigation which led them to Ramos.

Investigators initially thought Ramos was working alone, but after further digging, more suspects came out of the woodwork and officer Benjamin De Los Santos and former officer Derrick Dinsmore were arrested in connection with the case.

De Los Santos was arrested and booked for receiving stolen property, conspiracy, grand theft of firearms, embezzlement and circulation of a false document. He is being held on $20,000 bail.

Dinsmore was arrested and booked for receiving stolen property, accessory after the fact and preparing false documentary evidence. He is also being held on $20,000 bail.

De Los Santos has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the investigation. Dinsmore was dismissed from his job on Sept. 27 after his involvement in this investigation was discovered.
