JetBlue attendant says he drank before tirade

NEW YORK Former /*JetBlue*/ employee /*Steven Slater*/ made the admission on "Good Morning America" on Wednesday.

Two months ago, Slater swore at a passenger who he claimed had been rude to him.

He then went on the loud speaker and began swearing at the entire plane.

Then, he grabbed a beer and slid down an emergency chute.

"It was one of those days that drove me to drink, and I admit that I did have a little sip," Slater said on the show. Slater also admitted that he was a recovering alcoholic

When asked if he would have acted differently if he hadn't been drinking, Slater said he didn't know.

"No. I think it was time to go. Whether I would have left in such a spectacular fashion, I certainly don't know," he said.

Slater said passengers were never in danger and said that anyone with workplace problems should handle things more professionally.

As part of a plea deal, Slater will avoid jail time but must undergo counseling and pay a $10,000 fine.
