Many new moms experience the blues in the first few days following childbirth. However, when it lasts longer it can turn into something that needs medical attention.

In a new report, experts urged pediatricians to take the front line in diagnosing postpartum depression.

In an effort to spot postpartum depression earlier, they suggest pediatricians screen new moms when they come in for their initial visit.

If a mom is depressed, pediatricians can then refer her to a specialist for treatment.
