Audit finds faults in CA bullet train project

LOS ANGELES The state audit says the agency in charge of the proposed $43 billion bullet train linking Los Angeles with San Francisco paid nearly $3.5 million without documentation.

The state inspector reviewed more than $9 million in payments and found problems with nearly 40 percent of bills.

The audit found other questionable expenses, including $700,000 for a consultant who doesn't work for the project.
