The Quaids told Canadian authorities they wanted refugee status because they fear for their lives in the U.S.
Authorities released the couple after it was confirmed Evi Quaid is in fact a Canadian citizen.
As for Randy Quaid, Canadian officials will only say his case will have to go through immigration channels.
The Quaids are due to appear in a Santa Barbara court next week on felony vandalism charges and their U.S. lawyer has said he expects them to show up.
