Training program helps horses overcome fears

NORCO, Calif. "The way a horse's brain processes these things - all of it is a great big monster," said Liza Rogers at the Rancho Santiago Obstacle Course. She said horses can learn not to be afraid of these things so her program aims to safely expose horses to things they might encounter along the street.

"The people honk their horns and kids yell out their window, 'Horsey, horsey!'" she said. "Unless a horse has been introduced to some of this stuff it's very frightening for them."

Horses can be spooked by any number of things so the course is full of potentially scary stuff, allowing the horse to conquer its fears.
