Rowdy crowd draws LAPD outside Hollywood club

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. Officials said they had to call extra officers to the Avalon nightclub at 1735 Vine St. where some people were throwing rocks and bottles.

One witness said the trouble began after about 500 people who were waiting in line were told they wouldn't get in to the crowded club.

The club can hold 1,200 guests, but police said 2,000 were there.

Several people were arrested, but no serious injuries were reported.

Police said the incident did not rise to the level of a tactical alert.
