Airlines may soon have self-check baggage

November 8, 2010 12:00:00 AM PST
Airlines are in talks with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to allow passengers to print and affix their own bar-coded baggage tags. Passengers have been printing their own boarding passes for over a decade but until now, only airline agents could affix baggage tags in the U.S. It has become common practice at foreign airports.

The tags would be printed out at self-check-in kiosks and the bags would then be scanned by TSA agents for explosives as usual before being loaded onto planes.
