EPA gives SoCal an air pollution ultimatum

LOS ANGELES The Environmental Protection Agency gave the state an ultimatum Monday that unless state air quality managers prove they have effective plans to reduce air pollution to meet federal standards for airborne dust, smoke and soot they could be defunded.

The microscopic pollution particles have been linked to premature deaths from respiratory problems, heart attacks and lung cancer.
