2 charged in O.C. murder of unknown woman

SANTA ANA, Calif. DNA evidence helped link Gabino Valdivia-Guzman, 31, Costa Mesa, and Zenaido Valdivia-Guzman, 24, Santa Ana, to the crime.

Prosecutors said the brothers picked up the victim in Santa Ana in September 2009. Gabino Valdivia-Guzman was driving while his brother hid in the van.

Prosecutors said that when the victim realized there was another man inside the vehicle, she started to scream and tried to escape. They said the brother who was hiding pulled her into the back of the van and repeatedly beat her in the face and neck.

The two defendants are accused of dumping the victim's body in a parking lot and setting her body on fire.

The next day, the victim's partially-burned body was discovered by employees showing up for work.

The defendants were arrested on Saturday after investigators linked one of the brothers to the crime. If convicted, they could face a minimum sentence of life in state prison without the possibility of parole.

The identity of the victim remained under investigation.
