Irvine school district named in Title IX suit

IRVINE, Calif. The /*National Women's Law Center*/ filed a formal complaint on Wednesday, saying there are far fewer opportunities for girls to play sports in the district than there are for boys.

In fact, it said the gap in sports participation has been getting worse over the last several years.

A spokesperson for the school district told Eyewitness News, "The district has great respect for Title IX and is committed to providing equal access and opportunities for all students. It's a flawed analysis because it's based off participation rates, and that doesn't show the opportunities we offer."

The suit is being filed against 12 school districts across the country.
