Lizard eaten in Vietnam was unknown species

November 11, 2010 12:00:00 AM PST
A small lizard that is commonly eaten in Vietnam was a previously unknown species to scientists. Scientists said the lizards are all born female and reproduce by cloning.

They learned this after a Vietnamese reptile scientist noticed that all the lizards in one diner's fish tank were female.

He and an American colleague did some research on them and that's when they made the discovery.
