November 14, 2010 12:00:00 AM PST
The Justice Department is warning the Los Angeles Police Department to do more to combat racial profiling by officers. In a letter to the LAPD, the Justice Department points to a tape recording of two officers.

The two officers are reportedly dismissive of racial profiling complaints.

The two officers did not know they were being recorded.

Police Chief Charlie Beck said the tape recording does not reflect the current situation.

Beck said he put some strict new guidelines into place last year.

He said the Justice Department example happened well before the new guidelines.
