Driver surrenders after crashing into homes

SOUTH LOS ANGELES A 1996 Ford Crown Victoria had barreled all the way through the first home and then into a back house on Central Avenue at 75th Street at 8:24 p.m.

The driver ran off, but later turned himself into police. He has been released, but possible criminal charges are pending. CHP Officer Patrick Kimball said a hit-and-run accident without injuries is normally a misdemeanor.

The homes were vacant at the time of the accident and bank-owned.

Officials are waiting on Building and Safety to determine if the homes should be red tagged.
