Driver surrenders after crashing into homes

Authorities said a driver crashed a car into a South Los Angeles home on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010.

A driver who fled after slamming into two homes in South Los Angeles on Sunday night has turned himself in.A 1996 Ford Crown Victoria had barreled all the way through the first home and then into a back house on Central Avenue at 75th Street at 8:24 p.m.

The driver ran off, but later turned himself into police. He has been released, but possible criminal charges are pending. CHP Officer Patrick Kimball said a hit-and-run accident without injuries is normally a misdemeanor.

The homes were vacant at the time of the accident and bank-owned.

Officials are waiting on Building and Safety to determine if the homes should be red tagged.
