Mom: Gunman opened fire when teen opened door

LONG BEACH, Calif. Eduardo Rodriguez was shot and killed in his Long Beach home on Wednesday night, an apparent innocent victim of gang-related violence.

Rodriguez's mother, Angelica Rojas, was there when it happened. She said the teen heard a knock at his home, opened the door, and the gunman fired.

Authorities initially said the teen had been killed by a bullet that passed through the home from outside.

Paramedics took the 9th-grade /*Jordan High School Freshman Academy*/ student to a local hospital, where he died.

Investigators believe the shooter was targeting a relative with gang ties who used to live there.

The victim's family said Rodriguez was a straight-A student who dreamed of attending UC Berkeley.
