Mom: Gunman opened fire when teen opened door

The mother of a 14-year-old shooting victim in Long Beach said the gunman opened fire as soon as the teen answered the door.Eduardo Rodriguez was shot and killed in his Long Beach home on Wednesday night, an apparent innocent victim of gang-related violence.

Rodriguez's mother, Angelica Rojas, was there when it happened. She said the teen heard a knock at his home, opened the door, and the gunman fired.

Authorities initially said the teen had been killed by a bullet that passed through the home from outside.

Paramedics took the 9th-grade Jordan High School Freshman Academy student to a local hospital, where he died.

Investigators believe the shooter was targeting a relative with gang ties who used to live there.

The victim's family said Rodriguez was a straight-A student who dreamed of attending UC Berkeley.
