LONG BEACH, Calif. Eduardo Rodriguez answered the front door at his house on Wednesday, and was shot through the metal screen.

Investigators believe the gunman was targeting a relative with gang ties.

At the vigil, the boy's mother was overcome with emotion, as were many others in the crowd.

Family members say Rodriguez was a straight-A student who planned to go to UC Berkeley. He was a 9th-grader at Jordan High School Freshman Academy.

His killer is still on the loose.
