Suspect outruns police in car theft incident

VENTURA, Calif. Police responding to calls of ransacked vehicles in the area of Valmore Avenue and Eva Street spotted a suspicious person in the 300 block of Emma Avenue about 3 a.m.

When officers tried to contact the person, the suspect ran off and could not be found.

According to police, all of the car theft victims had left their vehicles unlocked or left valuables in plain sight. There were also victims that had their vehicles ransacked but had nothing taken.

Officers were able to recover some of the stolen property during the search and returned it to the rightful owners.
